Prepare a NewOrder Catalog for Uploading

Detailed Steps
Step 1

Check the catalog name

Please make sure the catalog has as descriptive a name as possible. If your catalog has a name that is identical to a catalog that already exists in the download list on our website, please rename the catalog from within NewOrder. This helps other users avoid accidentally overwriting their own catalogs with yours.

Step 2

Check the catalog properties

In NewOrder please tap Menu Bar, Catalog, Properties.... and check that the catalog properties are set the way you want them. If you do not want to distribute Item Notes, please uncheck the "Distribute Item Notes" option. If you wish to protect the Item Notes please check the "Also Protect Item Notes" option. If you want to specify a default Email To address, please enter an email address.

Step 3

Fill in the supplier information

If the catalog for a specific supplier, please fill in any supplier's contact information in the suppliers note.

Step 4

Protect the catalog

It is a good idea to protect a catalog before sharing it with others.

Step 5

Perform HotSync

Put your Palm into cradle and perform a HotSync to make sure that you have got the most current version of your catalog copied from your Palm to your desktop computer.

Step 6

Locate the catalog file

1. Locate the folder where your Palm Desktop is installed.

In Windows this is usually:
c:\Program Files\Palm (or whatever company your handheld was manufactured by: Handspring, Sony etc.)

In MacOS this should be:
\Users\ComputerName\Document\Palm

2. Find your Palm's databases which are usually in a folder called Backup within a folder named after your HotSync ID (the name you gave your Palm on your first Hotsync). If your Hotsync ID is John then:

In Windows your catalogs are probably stored in:
c:\Program Files\Palm\John\Backup

In MacOS your catalogs are probably stored in:
\Users\ComputerName\Document\Palm\Users
\John\Backup

3. Open up your backup folder. Look for any files with the suffix .PDB. If you are going to upload a catalog called "Green Home ", then you are looking for a database file:

NO1_Green_Home.PDB

Where "NO1_" is a special prefix assigned to all NewOrder files to indicate that it is an NewOrder 1.0 compatible catalog and .PDB is the suffix that indicates the file is palm database. If you cannot see any .PDB files check that the present folder is set to display that file type.

Step 7

Upload the file

Return to the Upload Page and use Browse to select the target database.

Go back to the Upload Page
